Where is Gratitude in your life?

Today, I decided to kick of this post with a good, ol, fashioned poll. See link below to participate!

What do you think about Gratitude? I want to know because I think it’s worth looking at in order to become present to our everyday blessings.  Author, Melody Beattie has a great little book out called Gratitude; Affirming the Good Things in Life.  Inside, Beattie reminds us of the principles of Gratitude; recognition, affirmation, acceptance, and goal-setting. What aspects of gratitude stand out for you?

Acceptance of our current circumstances, shifts our attention from drab to fab in the blink of an eye, uplifting our attitude as well as our mood making stress a thing of the past. Now this doesn’t mean we have to love everything in this world, but it does mean we need to accept life on life’s terms. When we practice acceptance, space is opened for gratitude to rush in and that’s where the magic happens. Our whole outlook on life begins to change and fear, negativity, along with depression simply fade away.

As Beattie so beautifully reminds us, “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”

According to Gogratitude.com, “Gratitude is the Master Key that opens all doors of possibility”. They even have a flash movie and a 42 day gratitude journey with inspiring  and educational videos to kick-start you on the grateful path. Although they call it an “experiment” what more could you ask for to try a gratitude practice of your very own? What have you got to lose anyways… our old ways of being will certainly be there.

I for one, can attest that when I come from a place of gratitude, my heart is open and my eyes are anew; life looks a little brighter, my face and body become more relaxed, my finances increase and judgement simply disappears. So why don’t you come along and take the gratitude challenge with me by seeing how this practice can add years to your life in a prosperous and joy-filled way!

“I am so Blessed”

Singer, songwriter, Karen Drucker wrote a song entitled “I am so blessed” from her album Songs of the Spirit II, which I have entitled today’s blog because it is so fitting. Below is a link to her website where you can hear this song for yourself and buy a copy of her CD. http://www.karendrucker.com/pages/music.htm

I had the great pleasure of participating in two, new, experiences September 1st. One was a book study and the other a magnificent woman’s group that enticed authentic action from me while tugging at my heartstrings and stirring up my passion/purpose. I learned so much from both experiences and grew more empowered and enlightened as a result. It is amazing the breakthroughs that can happen amongst other like-minded beings when brought together for a common purpose.

I am so thankful for the opportunity of these groups and for being fully present in them so that I could take full advantage. As a result, I had a fabulous day that was way more powerful than if I was just sitting at home alone. I was reminded of the importance of balance, prioritizing, practicing new skills, facing fear & moving forward with purpose & passion. I was reminded that I teach people how to treat me and that I have the right to be assertive in getting my needs met as well as making my boundaries known.

God reminded me of the importance of simplicity, again, and modeled what that looked like from both facilitators as well as provided me an opportunity to practice it with a friend that evening. All that was required was deep listening to another person, being fully present for them and to God, so that I could be a clear conduit for Spirit’s Wisdom. And what a relief it was. No pressure, or anxiety or stress. No worries or fear. No fuss. Just the willingness to listen from both ends. To the person in front of me and God. What could be greater than that.

I also learned to appreciate where I came from in my life and the power of just one decision. I was reminded of a dark time when my self destructive ways led me to a crossroads and how I made a conscious choice to live and stop trying to kill myself. This one choice made all the difference in my life and placed me on the path I am today. It led me to recovery and sobriety, to college where I earned my Bachelor’s in Social Work, and most importantly back to God; Source. From then on my Faith began to grow and I learned to trust God in every area of my life. I learned that God had a Divine Plan for me and that I was special and unique with specific talents and gifts designed for greatness. I learned that all the pain I’d experienced wasn’t in vain and that it all had meaning. For God never leaves us or forsakes us; God walks silently alongside us, waiting for us to reach out to him/her. God was there and always has been there. It’s me who moves away and forgets; who turns a deaf ear or becomes blind to the wisdom, love, strength and absolute power that lies in the Almighty. And the best part is, realizing that this power resides in me. That God lives in the center of my being as Spirit and that we are forever connected. That realization alone is what set me free from the roller coaster of addiction as well as suicidal depression. The knowledge that I am not alone and can never be abandoned. The knowledge that I have all the wisdom I will ever need right inside of myself to answer any question or make any decision in my life. The knowledge that comes from trusting God, having Faith, and surrendering control so that I don’t become lost of crazy in the details. I am so grateful that God has got my back and has supplied me with everything necessary for this earthly adventure. Thanks be to God. Blessed Be. And so it is.

God is in the Details

What a lovely sight; the ocean. How it moves freely and effortlessly over, in, and around land and ships. Millions of sea shells bask in the sunlight as pictured on the left, yet each is uniquely different. God surely is in the details of life.

How often do we become still in gratitude to bask in the magnificence of the Divine? God is all around us, guiding and directing the planets, animals, weather, and us, if we listen and heed his/her advice. I am so thankful that I don’t have to have all the answers and that I can rely upon a power greater than myself for wisdom and strength to lead me through anything.

Each day I am reminded of Spirit’s availability and accessibility in my life. When I feel overwhelmed or out of control, there is a power for good that I can call upon that restores me to sanity and serenity, however I must call upon it and believe its wisdom. There is freedom in trusting God. Spirit never abandons anyone and loves us all unconditionally.

Where in your life is God calling you to surrender control of the details so that something greater can come into being?  Today, I encourage you to become still long enough to feel the presence and peace that awaits when we release our fear and find faith.

Our Divine Path

What a relief it is knowing that we all have a Divine purpose and path for our lives. I find comfort from this belief and trust that regardless of current circumstances, I am exactly where I’m destined to be. Thank you God for providing me with everything needed for peace, stability, joy, abundance, health, and success!

By letting go and allowing my Divine Path to unfold, I release all anxiety, worry, and fear making room for God to work in my life. Through communing with the Divine, I have been led as to what actions to take and given all the strength and clarity that is needed each step of the way.

What is your Divine Path? To find out, close your eyes and take several deep breathes to get quiet and connect with Source. Clear you mind of everything and just be. Next, be open to Divine wisdom to come to you. Invite this wisdom and direction into your consciousness. You will be able to tell the difference between these wise thoughts and your usual thoughts, because they will be calming and feel right to you. You will feel this at a gut and heart level instead of your head which is logic based. So forget everything you think you know, breathe, and relax into the truth that you are on your Divine path!

Trust:Taking the Leap

Today I pushed past my fear and took a leap of faith by trying out for something that I was extremely hesitant about, but deep down, knew I needed.  In order to take this leap, God led me to wise council support in a good friend who gently cut through all my excuses and fears and reminded me of my truth. She guided me out the door and towards my dream. I placed my trust in her and my faith in God that whatever will be, will be.

The second miracle was, that I really wasn’t alone once I arrived, for I soon was befriended by others in a similar plight. Not long after, a new group of friends were formed which made the waiting much, much, easier. For over four hours, this new group of supporters became my support group as we each encouraged one another, keeping unraveling nerves at bay through sharing stories and jokes.

My third miracle was when my long-time friend arrived unexpectedly with her husband and baby to show their support and “try out” alongside me. We went into the interview together and I learned more about her pain than ever before. It’s amazing how we can be friends with someone for years and not know their deepest fears or pain. Today, I witnessed hers and it touched me deeply.

The lessons of the day were; trust and take the leap, for you shall be greatly rewarded. I did; have you? Imagine each day living like this. When we recognize the miracles all around us, and become genuinely grateful for them, we learn to trust the world like never before.

Possibilities Abound!

Become transported into a world of pure imagination where anything is possible. What do you think of and see? Drink in the colors, sounds, smells, and tastes of your dreams making them real  Think this only applies to art? Think again.

Each day, we are presented with limitless possibilities resulting from the choices we make. Today, I showcased my very own “Possibilities Book” as a final project for a class I was teaching. Each student presented their books brimming with hope and excitement for the dreams they represent therein while stating the risks each were willing to take to make these possibilities real. Then we affirmed the manifestation of these intentions for each other.

Too often we walk through life allowing fear to scare us away from leading the lives we really want and are called to. When was the last time you told yourself  “I’ll do ___, when ___” or “I can’t because __”? These excuses are fear based and only serve to squelch our ideas / dreams of what’s possible. The truth is, that the sky’s the limit and only we set our parameters in life. Thankfully, I have learned to identify my dreams and push past the fear in order to find joy and satisfaction in living my fullest life possible and YOU CAN TOO!

Take fear head on and dare to step into your possibilities. When we feel fear, we know we’re pushing past our comfort zone and soon afterwards, the thing(s) we’re afraid of set us free. Momentum builds confidence and strength in knowing that we can all do far more than we think is possible.
